How retail actually sells in Egypt
Discovery happens on social, the sale happens in chat
A large share of Egyptian retail demand starts on a Facebook or Instagram page, moves to a direct message, and finishes on WhatsApp with a photograph, a price and a delivery address. The showroom is often a confirmation step rather than the first touch. A system built around walk-ins alone will miss most of the funnel.
Payment terms decide the sale as much as price
Two mechanisms dominate. Instalment plans through consumer finance providers turn a large ticket into an affordable one, and cash on delivery remains the default for many online orders. Both create work after the customer has said yes: an approval to chase, a confirmation call to make, and cash to reconcile once the courier returns.
Prices move, and quotations go stale quickly
Import costs and currency movement mean a price quoted a fortnight ago may no longer hold. Retailers who leave old quotations open discover this at delivery, in front of the customer. Recording a validity date and re-quoting deliberately converts an awkward surprise into a normal conversation.
