How wholesale apparel actually sells in the United States
The calendar is unforgiving and the windows are short
American wholesale runs on a schedule that does not wait for anyone. Buyers plan seasons in advance, appointments cluster into market weeks in New York, Las Vegas, Atlanta and Dallas, and the selling window for a season closes whether or not a brand has followed up. Everything a brand does commercially is compressed into a few weeks, and most of the value leaks in the two weeks afterwards when the team is exhausted and the follow-up list exists only in somebody notebook.
The cancel date is the deadline that matters
A purchase order carries a delivery window and a cancel date, and the cancel date is where the commercial risk sits. If production slips and the shipment misses it, the buyer can decline the goods. Sales teams that cannot see those dates find out about the problem when it has already become a returned shipment rather than a renegotiated window.
