How enrolment actually works in the United States
A long funnel with a family at the end of it
An inquiry in October may enrol the following August. In between there are visits, applications, financial conversations and a decision made jointly by a student and at least one parent. The institutions that convert well are not the ones with the best brochure; they are the ones still in useful contact in month seven.
Texting is the channel, with rules attached
Students reply to text messages and ignore email. That makes SMS the most valuable channel in the funnel and the one with the clearest compliance obligations, which is why consent status has to be visible to the person about to press send rather than buried in a system somewhere.
Melt is the expensive part
The gap between a deposit and the first day of class is where enrolment quietly disappears. Every admitted student who goes silent in June is a place unfilled in September, and the only reliable defence is a scheduled, human sequence of contact through the summer.
