Every Michigan auto renewal is now an advisory conversation
Michigan auto reform replaced a single standard arrangement with a choice of medical coverage levels, and that changed the job of an agency more than any software decision ever will. A personal auto sale that used to be a price comparison is now a conversation about what a household is prepared to carry and what it wants an insurer to carry, with real consequences after a serious accident.
Two things follow for the pipeline. First, the level chosen and the date the selection form was signed belong on the file as structured fields, not as a note, so the whole book can be reviewed at once. Second, the review needs to happen annually, because the answer that suited a household when money was tight may not suit them two years later, and nobody will raise it unless the system does.
Consistency across producers matters here
When the options are genuinely consequential, three producers explaining them three different ways is a problem. A reviewed explanation attached to the account, used by everyone, keeps the advice consistent and makes the annual review quick. It also means a new producer can have the conversation properly in their first month rather than their second year.
