Overview
Mailchimp is one of the most common marketing automation platforms for newsletters and drip programs. Connecting it to HelloGrowthCRM lets you treat the CRM as the system of record for who is a lead or customer, while Mailchimp handles broadcast and journey execution. The integration is intentionally one-way (CRM → Mailchimp) so sales and marketing alignment does not create conflicting edits in both systems. After you map fields and audiences, marketing can trust that segments reflect the latest qualification and ownership from the CRM.
What data is involved
- Contact identity: email (required), name, company, phone when present.
- Tags or list membership derived from CRM lifecycle stage, lead source, or custom fields you map.
- Opt-in / marketing consent flags when your CRM stores them (respect regional rules).
- Last sync timestamp for troubleshooting duplicate sends.
- Typically does not write Mailchimp engagement metrics back into CRM unless you add a separate automation.

Best practices
- Define one primary audience per region or brand to avoid the same person on five overlapping lists.
- Use tags for behavioral segments (e.g. “SQL”, “Nurture”) instead of duplicating contacts across lists.
- Run a small test sync on a handful of records before full audience sync.
- Document which team owns audience naming and tag taxonomy (RevOps + Marketing).
Best for & common use cases
Email drip campaigns, newsletters, and marketing automation driven by CRM lead data.
- Nurture inbound leads with segmented Mailchimp journeys.
- Keep marketing lists aligned when reps qualify or disqualify leads.
FAQ
Governance
Treat API keys and webhooks as production secrets. Align field mapping with your privacy policy and regional regulations (GDPR, marketing consent, telemarketing rules). Your admin controls which roles can install or edit integrations.
