Opinionated versus configurable
An opinionated tool decides the structure for you and gets you working immediately. A configurable platform hands you the modelling decisions and, with them, the responsibility for getting them right. Both are legitimate; they simply front-load different costs.
Team size and role each assumes
Light relationship CRMs assume a handful of users who share conventions informally. Configurable platforms assume someone plays an operations role, even part time. If nobody in your business holds that role, configurability tends to become debt.
Breadth versus depth
Both categories are strong on data and integrations and thinner on execution: calling, messaging, sequences and the daily prompts that actually move a pipeline. Ask which half of your problem is bigger before you compare interfaces.
Implementation effort
Same-day for the lighter option, longer for the platform. Whichever you choose, set a deadline for configuration. Modelling work expands to fill the time available, and no schema has ever closed a deal.
Channel coverage
Check what happens to calls and WhatsApp messages in each product. Modern CRMs often expect those to arrive through integrations, which is workable, but it means your conversation history depends on a connector rather than on the CRM itself.
