How engineering firms in Thailand sell
The specifier and the buyer are in different places
A great deal of industrial work in Thailand is specified at the plant and bought at head office. An engineer at an estate in Rayong or Chonburi identifies the need and calls in a supplier to look at it. The requisition then travels to Bangkok, where procurement, finance and sometimes a parent company abroad each have a view. The supplier who only maintains the plant relationship is invisible for the part of the process that decides the order.
Enquiries themselves come from plant procurement teams, from EPC contractors building or upgrading a facility, from trade exhibitions, and from the referrals that follow reliable delivery. The common feature is that a site visit almost always precedes a serious price, which puts a travel-dependent step in the middle of every deal.
