How events are sold in Nigeria
Everything happens on Saturday
Nigerian social events cluster hard. Traditional weddings, receptions, birthdays, anniversaries and thanksgiving parties all gravitate to the same handful of Saturdays, and a planner in Lagos or Abuja can be asked for the same date by three families in one week. The constraint is rarely the calendar alone; it is crew, vehicles and vendor availability on that day. Companies that grow are the ones that know precisely what a Saturday is already carrying before saying yes to another job, and that can say no early enough to keep a client's goodwill.
Instagram is the shopfront, WhatsApp is the shop
Enquiries begin under a decor photograph and move to WhatsApp within minutes. Families ask for a rate card, compare planners, and often go quiet for weeks while budgets and relatives are consulted. A large share of the best work comes from clients living abroad, planning a wedding at home for a date in December, who send voice notes at odd hours and expect a reply before their day ends. Import-linked costs on decor, drinks and rentals mean a quote written months ahead needs re-checking before it is honoured.
