How finance is sold in Singapore
Introductions and events do the heavy lifting
Cold outreach is a constrained and unpopular channel here, so most advisory, insurance and mortgage business comes from introductions: property agents, accountants, employers running benefit schemes, and clients who recommend an adviser to a colleague. Seminars, roadshows and webinars fill the gap. Both sources are perishable in the same way — an introduction that is not followed up within days cools, and an event list left for a fortnight is worth very little.
The sale is consultative and has to be documented
A recommendation is expected to rest on a recorded fact find, and the client decision that follows is part of the same file. That is not paperwork for its own sake; it is what allows another adviser to service the client later, and it is what a firm falls back on when a client questions what was advised.
