How insurance is sold in Thailand
Agents, banks, and brokers share the market
A Thai agency competes on service in a market where banks cross-sell life policies at the counter and online platforms discount motor cover. The agent's advantages are proximity and patience: being the person the family calls after an accident, sitting through the third conversation about hospital cover, remembering that the shop owner's son just bought a pickup. Those advantages only pay if follow-up is reliable, because the bank's next mailer and the platform's next discount are always already scheduled.
Motor renewals are the drumbeat
The motor book renews every year, policy by policy, and each renewal is a small battle against cheaper quotes. Agencies that reach clients early, with the voluntary-class comparison already prepared, keep their books. The expat segment adds a different rhythm: health and property cover for foreign residents, sold and serviced in English over WhatsApp, with high premiums and high expectations of responsiveness.
