How jewellery is actually sold in Nigeria
The shopfront is a messaging inbox
For most jewellery businesses here the first contact is a direct message on a social account or a WhatsApp enquiry after seeing a photograph. Reply speed is the single strongest predictor of whether a sale happens, and the customer is usually messaging two or three sellers at once. Enquiries lost between accounts are the largest and least visible leak in the whole business.
Payment before delivery makes trust the product
Bespoke orders begin with a deposit and often complete with a balance paid before dispatch. That arrangement only works when the customer feels informed: a clear design agreement, honest dates, and updates that arrive without being chased. A business that goes quiet for two weeks during making is not just being slow; it is creating the exact conditions in which a customer asks for a refund.
