How private client money is won on a Nigerian desk
The introduction matters more than the pitch
Very little private client money in Nigeria arrives through advertising. It arrives because an existing client vouched for a manager, because a corporate scheme opened a door to salaried professionals, or because somebody met the manager at a church group, an alumni gathering or an industry event in Lagos. The introduction does the persuading. What the manager adds is response speed, and that is where books leak: the enquiry is warm on Tuesday and cold by Monday.
The book belongs to whoever holds the history
Nigerian desks lose books when managers move, for mechanical rather than emotional reasons. If every instruction and promise sits in a personal WhatsApp thread, the firm cannot serve those clients the day the manager stops answering. A CRM for wealth managers in Nigeria is, at bottom, the decision that the firm keeps the record.
