What you are actually buying
A sales dialer is not really a software purchase, it is a purchase of three things bundled together: a dialling interface, a telephony route and a set of operational controls. Buyers evaluate the first, occasionally examine the third, and almost never ask about the second, which is unfortunate because the telephony route is what decides whether your reps spend the morning talking to customers or repeating themselves through poor audio.
This guide contains no ranking and no scores. Dialer performance is conditional on geography, carrier routing, team size and call type, so a published league table would be reporting the author's conditions rather than yours. What follows is the anatomy of the category, the questions that get straight answers, and a test you can run in a morning that will tell you more than any list.
