How accounting work is won in India
Referrals arrive on WhatsApp, not on letterhead
An Indian CA practice grows the same way it always has, through satisfied clients recommending the firm, but the recommendation now takes the form of a forwarded contact card on WhatsApp. The prospect messages, not calls. If that message lands on a partner's personal number during a deadline week, it gets a thumbs-up and no follow-up, and the referral is wasted. Professional norms also restrict how chartered accountants may solicit work, and observing them is the firm's responsibility, which makes the handling of inbound enquiries and referrals the growth engine that matters most.
Compliance deadlines set the rhythm of selling
GST return dates, advance tax, ITR season, and ROC filings create a calendar where the firm is alternately drowning and available. Prospects do not respect that calendar. The firms that grow are the ones whose follow-up continues mechanically through the crunch.
