How specialty chemicals are actually bought in the United States
The purchase order comes from one place and the decision from another
A large share of American specialty chemical volume moves through distribution. The distributor branch places the order, holds the credit relationship and manages the logistics, but the decision to specify a product is made in a formulator laboratory or a plant technical group that may never appear on your invoice. Manufacturers who track only the account they bill lose sight of where the product is winning and where it is being quietly replaced.
Enquiries arrive technical and unqualified in equal measure
Inbound enquiries come from industrial directories, trade shows and the website, and they arrive as a mix of serious formulators, students, and buyers price checking an incumbent. Handling them all the same way is expensive: samples are not free, and technical time is the scarcest resource in the company. Sorting the enquiry before the sample ships is the first job of the pipeline.
