How cleaning work is actually sold in India
Two businesses that share a phone number
Most Indian cleaning companies are running two different businesses at once. One is residential deep cleaning: a WhatsApp message about a sofa, a kitchen or a full flat clean, quoted in minutes, booked for tomorrow, paid partly in advance and completed in a day. The other is commercial housekeeping: an office, a hospital, a school or a society that needs staff deployed every day under a contract that takes weeks to win and years to keep.
The mistake almost everyone makes is running both through the same queue. A residential booking that is not answered within the hour is lost, while a housekeeping proposal that is chased daily becomes irritating. They need separate stages, separate response expectations and separate people, even when the enquiries arrive on the same number.
The decision is made in a meeting you are not in
Society and institutional contracts are decided by a managing committee, an administration head or a purchase committee that meets on its own schedule. The vendor who wins is usually the one whose proposal was in the secretary hand before the meeting, whose rate could be explained line by line, and who called the day after to ask how it went. None of that requires cleverness. It requires knowing the meeting date, which is a field, not a feeling.
