Why Nagpur is a transport town
The junction, and what it means commercially
Nagpur sits where the main north south and east west road corridors cross, which is why so much freight passes through it and why so many transport businesses are based here. Being on a junction is commercially double edged. There is no shortage of load enquiries, but there is also no shortage of operators, and rates on the busy lanes are set by a market that everybody can see. The operators who make money are not the ones with the lowest rate. They are the ones who keep the right consignors, load in both directions, and get paid on time.
Where the business is actually transacted
The trade clusters around the transport nagar areas and the arterial roads leading out of the city, with booking offices, brokers and loading points concentrated in a handful of stretches. A working day is spent between a booking office, a loading point and a consignor factory or godown somewhere in the industrial belt, which may mean the airport side, the MIHAN direction or an hour out towards Butibori and beyond. Very little of it happens at a desk, so anything that requires an evening of data entry will simply not be done.
