Understanding NPS
What it does
Calculates your Net Promoter Score and categorizes it from World Class (>70) to Poor (<0) based on the percentage of promoters and detractors.
Why it matters
NPS is one of the best leading indicators of customer growth and retention. Companies with high NPS grow faster, churn less, and retain more customers.
Definition
NPS = (% Promoters) - (% Detractors). Promoters are scores 9-10, passives 7-8, detractors 0-6. NPS ranges from -100 to +100.
Assumptions
- •Responses are from recent customer surveys (last 30-90 days).
- •Sample size is representative of your customer base.
- •Scores reflect genuine customer sentiment.
How to interpret your results
Above 50 is excellent. 30-50 is good. 0-30 needs work. Below 0 is critical. A 10-point improvement in NPS can translate to 20-30% faster growth.
How to improve
Find and fix detractors
Conduct qualitative interviews with detractors to understand why. Often it's a onboarding, support, or feature gap.
Turn passives into promoters
Passives are swing votes. Target them with feature launches, success stories, or exclusive programs.
