What a solo practitioner in India is really asking here
It is rarely a request for software features. It is usually one of two moments. Either an enquiry was missed, a real one, worth a month of income, because it arrived on a Saturday between two family group chats and was never seen again. Or a quarter came in thin and it became obvious that three proposals had gone unanswered and nobody had chased them. Both are follow up problems dressed as messaging problems, and both are solved by giving each enquiry a record rather than a chat bubble.
Why the chat list stops working around a certain size
A chat list orders itself by who messaged most recently, which is exactly the wrong order for freelance work. The client who is closest to signing is often the one who has gone quiet, and quiet means invisible. Once you are handling more than a few live conversations at once, the list actively hides the things that matter and shows you whoever pinged last. A pipeline inverts that: it shows what is open, what is stale, and what needs a nudge today.
