SDR full form and meaning
SDR stands for Sales Development Representative. It is an early-stage sales role that sits at the very front of the process, before any deal is negotiated or closed. The SDR's job is to take the flow of new leads coming into a business, and the prospects a business wants to reach, and turn the ones worth pursuing into qualified meetings for a closer. The word doing the work in the title is development: an SDR develops raw interest into a real sales conversation.
An SDR is not a receptionist taking messages, and not a closer carrying a revenue number. They are the specialists in the first few touches: answering an enquiry before the prospect cools off, reaching out to someone who has not yet asked, and asking enough of the right questions to tell a genuine opportunity apart from a tyre-kicker. Done well, the role means the people who close spend their time with prospects who are ready to talk, instead of chasing leads that were never going to buy.
