How printing companies sell in India
Enquiries arrive as samples, not as specifications
An Indian printing enquiry usually starts with a photograph. A customer sends an image of a carton, a label or a brochure on WhatsApp with a quantity and asks for a rate. The specification that an estimator actually needs, paper GSM, colours, lamination, die, binding and finishing, has to be extracted through a conversation. That extraction happens differently depending on who handles the enquiry, which is why the same job frequently gets quoted at two different rates by the same press.
Capturing the specification once, in a structured record, is the least glamorous fix available and the one that most reliably improves margin. It makes estimates consistent, lets a second person quote in the first person absence, and gives the unit a real history of what it has quoted rather than a folder of chat screenshots.
Segments that behave nothing alike
A press typically serves several customer types at once. Packaging and label buyers order repeatedly on a schedule and care about consistency and delivery. Corporate and institutional customers order in bursts against purchase orders with credit days attached. Agencies and event companies want speed and forgive a lot if the deadline is met. Wedding stationery and seasonal work arrives in concentrated waves. Job work from larger units is steady but thin on margin. One board with segment recorded lets a manager see all of them separately.
