Where agency leads come from, and where they leak
Agency new business arrives through a familiar set of doors: the website form behind the case studies, LinkedIn DMs to the founder, referrals from past clients and freelancer networks, pitch and RFP invitations, event and webinar conversations, and the occasional WhatsApp message from a founder who got the number from a friend.
The leak is delivery gravity. When client work heats up, new business stops: the form fill waits four days, the DM thread goes cold mid-negotiation, the referral never gets the promised call, and the pitch deadline is discovered with three days to spare. Agencies rarely lose new business to competitors; they lose it to their own calendar, and the loss is invisible because nobody was counting what came in.
