Architecture bills in stages and forgets to invoice them
An architectural appointment is not one sale, it is a sequence of them. Concept, preliminary drawings, statutory submission, good for construction, site supervision, each with a percentage of the fee attached. The practice completes a stage, moves immediately to the next because the client is waiting, and the invoice for the completed stage gets raised late or not at all. Most small and mid-sized practices are owed money they have already earned.
The second stall is approval. A drawing set goes out, or a file goes to an authority, and then nothing happens for weeks with no owner, no age and no record of which version was issued.
