How to evaluate a CRM for an Indian ecommerce business
Indian ecommerce is a conversation business more than a checkout business. Buyers message on WhatsApp and Instagram before ordering, a large share of orders are cash on delivery, resellers and bulk buyers negotiate in chat, and the same customer appears on your website, on a marketplace and in a DM. The tooling most brands buy first — a store platform and a campaign tool — handles none of that.
The five criteria
One: does WhatsApp run on your business number inside the CRM, with shared visibility, rather than on a founder's phone? Two: is there a COD confirmation workflow before dispatch? Three: can bulk and reseller enquiries run as deals with rates and terms? Four: does the customer timeline hold orders, chats and complaints in one place? Five: does it integrate with your store and shipping stack without an engineering project?
