What the Rajkot component business is actually made of
Casting and machining, side by side
Rajkot is an engineering town in the most literal sense. Foundries and machine shops sit close to one another across the industrial areas around Aji, Bhaktinagar, Gondal Road and out towards Metoda and Shapar Veraval, and a great deal of the work is done by units that both cast and machine, or that cast in one shop and machine in another a few kilometres away. That structure gives the cluster its flexibility and its characteristic commercial rhythm: quick sampling, fast tooling improvisation, and a willingness to take on a part that a larger plant would decline.
Three markets that behave nothing alike
Most units here sell into three markets. The aftermarket, through distributors and retailers spread across the country, which is a territory and credit business. Original equipment and tier supply to vehicle and engine makers, which is a development and audit business measured in years. And exports, largely to Africa, the Middle East, Southeast Asia and parts of Europe, where the buyer is an importer or a distributor and container economics matter. A unit that tries to run all three from a single contact list ends up managing whichever one shouts loudest.
