How logistics desks follow up today, and where shippers leak
A forwarding or transport sales desk quotes constantly: lane rates, spot rates, contract rates, each with a validity that the market will move past within days. Follow-up runs on memory and mood, which means the chase happens for the quotes someone feels hopeful about, and the rest expire in silence. Meanwhile new accounts stall in onboarding paperwork, regular shippers drift to competitors one booking at a time, and contract renewals arrive as surprises.
Speed is the product
Shippers rarely choose the cheapest forwarder; they choose the organised one, because their cargo and their customer promises ride on it. Follow-up discipline is therefore not sales hygiene in this industry, it is a live demonstration of the service being sold. A desk that chases its own quotes on time is making an argument about how it will chase a delayed container.
