How staffing teams pick their battles today
Ask an agency where this month's sourcing hours went and the honest answer is: wherever the pressure was. The client who called twice got the profiles. The quiet requisition from the client who actually hires got what was left. Staffing is one of the few businesses where you can do excellent work on the wrong assignment and earn precisely nothing, because only a joined candidate produces a fee.
The waste is structural. A typical agency desk carries three or four times more open requisitions than it can properly source, so prioritisation is happening constantly, it is just happening invisibly, differently for every recruiter, and usually in favour of whoever complained last.
