The meeting is over and the detail is already fading
A relationship manager day is a client home at ten, a promoter office at one, a referral source at four and a family meeting in the evening. Four conversations, each with a promise inside it, and no point in the day where anybody sits at a desk.
Notes written that evening beat notes written on Friday
By Friday, four meetings have merged into one general impression. What survives is a feeling that things went well. What does not survive is the sentence about a daughter university plan, the concern about a business sale, or the document the client agreed to send on Wednesday.
The review date is the whole discipline
Relationships here are not lost in a dramatic meeting. They fade. Setting the next review date at the end of every meeting, and letting overdue ones surface as a list, separates a book that grows from one that quietly leaks to a competitor with better manners.
