A week inside plants and dealer counters
Industrial selling happens where laptops cannot go. A sales engineer is at a plant gate at half past nine, on a shop floor with hearing protection at eleven, at a dealer counter after lunch and driving between industrial estates for the rest of the day.
The walkthrough
The most valuable minute of the visit is standing in front of the installed equipment. A photograph of the nameplate and the marked drawing settles arguments that would otherwise take three emails and a second visit to resolve.
The car park note
Outcome, specification, who was met and in what role, next action with a date. Recorded before the engine starts, it is accurate. Recorded on Saturday for six plants at once, it is fiction with dates attached.
The dealer counter
A counter visit is about stock seen, complaints raised and what the competitor is pushing this month. Logged on the phone, it turns a beat plan from an intention into something an area manager can review.
