Where legal work comes from, and where intake fails
A practice is fed by referrals more than by anything else: other advocates passing conflicted or out-of-area matters, CAs and company secretaries sending clients with disputes, past clients recommending the firm. Around that core flow chamber phone calls, website and directory enquiries, and WhatsApp messages that arrive with a scanned notice attached.
Intake fails quietly. The call reaches an advocate mid-hearing and is never returned. The referral goes to one partner's mobile and the firm never learns it existed. The conflict emerges after two meetings. The matter with a ticking limitation period waits in a general inbox over a long weekend. None of these failures announce themselves; the client simply retains another firm and the demand statistic never gets recorded anywhere.
